Alex Thompson is the Founder of the Just Markets Institute and the field of Time Economics. He founded JMI in 2024 after graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder with a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Business Administration (Marketing) and working as an HR professional for two years at a Data-as-a-Service company that supported the Energy Markets. Alex was inspired to study economics from Milton Friedman's 1980 ten-hour series, Free To Choose, which espoused the wonders of the free market. But, after studying economics and graduating college with major market failures in the environment, transportation, and housing markets, he realizes how damaging the free market myth is to real people. After saving a year's salary and moving back to the Midwest, Alex is working full-time on independent study and creating the foundations of JMI.
"I've always had the belief that economics should be a tool to maximize the welfare of society, and I truly believed that free market economics was the way to do that. However, all the free economic educational content I was consuming was purposefully narrow-minded and full of false assumptions to push business interests, often to the expense of the rest of society. I founded the Just Markets Institute to help create free economic educational content to teach the shunned side of economics that doesn't emphasize maximizing short-term profit."

My Dad gave me this book to read, and it inspired me to keep reading. National Socialism made people do ungodly things to each other, so horrible that people could not believe we were capable of that. They created a system that divided people so much, that they mechanically killed millions. This book taught me how powerful our institutions could be against human morality. We hold degrees of trust in our systems, that they are morally right. But, we cannot always follow them blindly.
My whole life, I've been told our system is broken and we (My Generation) are the ones to fix it. Through my interdisciplinary studies, I've found the core problem, we are stuck in a Nash Trap (Nash Equilibrium). Our systems need updating.
Starting a Movement
I minored in communications and leadership studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. These courses set me up to start the Just Markets and Freedomomics movements. But, they didn't warn me about the challenges of being the lone nut. Let's dance towards a better future together!
