Just Markets Institute
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we're able to accept tax-deductible donations to fund essential organizational services and promote our educational media. Also, we're able to partner with colleges to provide fulfilling and educational internships where students will have the opportunity to make a real difference. Our legal status legitimizes our efforts to new partners in research, education, and other nonprofits.
We are not controlled by large donors, we rely on members to volunteer their time and money to support the Just Markets movement. The board of directors will be elected directly by members to ensure the organization's direction stays in line with the members who support it.
Educational Material
As an educational nonprofit, our core mission is to provide free economic education that is commonly ignored by free market fundamentalists who dominate online economic content. Economic Anthropology gives us a means to expand our perspectives by understanding how other cultures work together to achieve their goals. Environmental Economics provides us with a framework to live sustainably with our environment. Industrial Organization helps us understand how firms act in the market and how to avoid the harms of oligopolies. Development Economics allows us to explore the importance of institutions in a successful economy and how we should shape those institutions. Game Theory is the glue that connects every field of economics to help us understand interactions at a deeper level. Time Economics is our new field of economics to measure everyone's utility equally.
Internship / Mentorship Program
Employee training and internship programs have become trapped in a prisoner's dilemma, where employers would prefer to hire experienced employees instead of training them. This has resulted in a massive gap in the supply and demand for quality internship programs for students. We plan to help fill this gap by providing exceptional internship experiences through impactful project work and mentorship from experienced professional members. This program will drive the growth of JMI, develop future leaders, and give busy professionals a high-impact, low time requirement, opportunity to advance Just Markets.
We will help facilitate partnerships with researchers, educators, creators, and other nonprofits who want to build a more sustainable, equitable, and efficient economy. This network will provide connection opportunities to partners and allow us to help assist in their efforts. By creating an informational pipeline from hard-to-understand research papers to easily consumable education media, we can make a real difference together.
Every member can create a project proposal that aligns with JMI's mission. This process will allow members to take an active role within the organization and outline their ideas to other members. Depending on the project, members can volunteer, it can be assigned to an intern(s), and a dedicated Givebutter campaign can be created to raise funds.
